How Much Does a Transfer from Punta Cana to Dominicus Cost?

Resort entrance at Playa Dominicus, Dominican Republic

Playa Dominicus is home to some of the largest all-inclusive resorts on the Dominican Republic's southeast coast — Catalonia Bayahibe, Viva Dominicus, Dreams Dominicus, and several others. Most travelers arriving here are coming off an international flight with checked luggage and a resort check-in ahead of them. That context shapes which transfer option actually makes sense.

The drive from Punta Cana International Airport is roughly 70 km — slightly further than Bayahibe — and takes around an hour along the Autopista del Coral. Here's what every option costs and where each one falls short for resort-bound travelers.

Airport Taxi — $120 to $140

PUJ taxis use a fixed rate card rather than meters. For Dominicus, the on-the-day price typically lands between $120 and $140 — higher if you don't ask to see the rate card first, or if you're approached by an unofficial driver inside the terminal rather than using the licensed queue outside.

The taxi will drop you directly at your resort entrance, which is a genuine advantage over shared shuttles. The disadvantage is the uncertainty: you're agreeing to a price after a long international flight, in an unfamiliar airport, with no pre-confirmed vehicle.

Best for: Last-minute arrivals, Spanish speakers comfortable negotiating at the queue.

Uber — $80 to $100

The app price looks appealing, but Dominicus is well outside Uber's reliable coverage zone from PUJ. Two problems affect almost every group traveling to a Dominicus resort:

  • Luggage capacity — UberX in the Dominican Republic runs on compact sedans and micro cars. Uber's own policy at PUJ limits luggage to 2 bags for 3 passengers, and accepts none for a full car of 4. A couple with two suitcases each, or a family of four, will not fit in a single Uber.
  • Cancellations on long routes — drivers frequently cancel or attempt to renegotiate when they see Dominicus as the destination. A round trip for them is over two hours. Expect wait times of 20–45 minutes even when a driver does accept.

Late-night arrivals are particularly risky — coverage at PUJ drops significantly after 10 PM, exactly when many transatlantic flights land.

Best for: Solo traveler with carry-on only, arriving during the day, prepared for uncertainty.

Private Transfer — $110

A pre-booked private transfer with us is $110 from PUJ to any resort in Dominicus, for up to 6 passengers. Your driver is in the arrivals hall when you land — name sign in hand — and knows exactly which gate your resort uses. The price was set when you booked. Your flight is monitored, so a delay doesn't strand you.

For a group of four, that's $27.50 per person. Cheaper than splitting two Ubers, and considerably less stress than negotiating a taxi rate after stepping off a transatlantic flight.

One detail worth noting for resort guests: our drivers know the specific entrances for every property in Dominicus. Resorts like Catalonia and Viva have multiple access gates — the difference between being dropped at the right one and walking through a sprawling resort complex with your bags matters.

Best for: Families, groups, resort guests with checked luggage, anyone arriving at night.

Shared Shuttle — $25 to $40 per person

Shared vans from PUJ serve the entire coastal strip — Bayahibe, Dominicus, and La Romana — making multiple stops along the way. You'll typically wait at the airport for the vehicle to fill before departing, then ride as the driver works through a drop-off list.

For Dominicus specifically, where resorts are spread out along several kilometers of coast, the shuttle route can add 45–60 minutes to your journey time compared to a private vehicle. If you're four people, the per-person cost advantage over a $110 private transfer is small — and you arrive faster and directly.

Best for: Solo travelers or couples prioritizing cost over time, flexible about arrival timing.

The Resort Transfer Question

Some all-inclusives offer airport transfers through their partner tour operators. These are convenient to book alongside your stay but are often priced at a significant premium — $150 or more for the same route a private transfer covers for $110. They're worth comparing before you commit.

Booking in Advance Makes More Sense Here

Dominicus has limited local taxi availability once you're at the resort. Unlike a city destination where you can hail something easily, getting back to Punta Cana airport at the end of your stay requires planning ahead. Booking round-trip from the start locks in both journeys at the same price — and means you're not scrambling at checkout.
