About Bayahibe

Local answers to the questions every visitor asks.

Bayahibe is a charming fishing village on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, famous for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and access to Saona Island and the National Park Cotubinama. It's a paradise for snorkeling, diving, and experiencing authentic Dominican culture.
Bayahibe enjoys warm tropical weather year-round. The dry season (December to April) is the most popular time to visit, with sunny skies and lower humidity. However, the shoulder seasons offer fewer crowds and great deals on accommodations.
Top attractions include boat trips to Saona Island, snorkeling or diving in the nearby coral reefs. But Bayahibe is so much more than that — exploring the local culture, cuisine, and natural beauty is a must. We strongly recommend Edward Santana's cultural tours. Yes, Bayahibe is a safe destination. It's a relatively small, friendly community where locals and visitors coexist peacefully. As with any travel destination, we recommend standard precautions with valuables.
The Dominican Peso (DOP) is the local currency, but US dollars and Euros are widely accepted in tourist areas. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept major credit cards. ATMs are available in town for cash withdrawals.
Yes! The warm Caribbean waters around Bayahibe are home to the West Indian manatee. Bayahibe is home to manatees, sea turtles, and many more beautiful marine animals. While sightings aren't guaranteed, these gentle giants are occasionally spotted in the coastal waters, especially in quieter coves and near seagrass beds.
Bayahibe is a small, walkable community but if you want to move between La Romana and Dominicus, there is public transportation. While many visitors rely on private shuttles or local taxis, there are also routine and frequent public busses (guaguas publicas) that move between the three towns.
